Lifeguard Classes

Lifeguard Training (PAC 249)

  • What it is: A three-day American Red Cross academic course that prepares you to respond to aquatic emergencies.
  • What you will learn: Water rescues, first aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
  • What you earn upon successful completion: American Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding (including deep water), CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid and 1 academic credit.
  • When it is offered: Winter term, spring break and spring terms.

Lifeguard Recertification (PAC 299)

  • What it is: A one-day American Red Cross academic course that updates and renews lifeguarding skills.
  • What you will review: Water rescues, first aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
  • What you get upon successful completion: Your certification is renewed, so you stay current and ready to respond in emergencies and 1 academic credit.
  • When it is offered: Fall, winter, spring and summer terms.

Lifeguard Instructor Certification (PAC 299)

  • What it is: A two-day American Red Cross academic course that trains individuals to teach lifeguarding courses, with an emphasis on leadership, communication, and instructional methods.

  • What you will learn: How to instruct water rescues, first aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.

  • What you earn upon successful completion: American Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding Instructor and 1 academic credit.

  • When it is offered: Fall and spring terms.

  • What it is: A three-day American Red Cross community course that trains individuals to teach swimming and water safety courses. 
  • What you will learn: Instructional techniques, water safety principles and effective teaching strategies for a range of ages and skill levels.
  • What you earn upon successful completion: American Red Cross certification in Water Safety Instruction.
  • When it is offered: Fall term.
