Intramurals Frequently Asked Questions

What are intramurals?

From the Greek words “intra” (within) and “mural” (walls), intramurals run “within the walls” of our institution. The emphasis in intramurals in on participation and fun, not on intense competition. There are “A”, “B” and “Elite” skill levels, so even if you are new to an activity, there is a place for you.

Who is eligible to participate in intramurals at OSU?

Who Can Participate: All students who pay the full student incidental fees and members of Rec Sports are eligible to join intramural sports.
Special Circumstances: Certain individuals, such as varsity or professional sports team members, may be restricted from participating, and they cannot play in the same or related intramural sport in an A or B league.
Additional Requirements: Some intramurals may require an IM Pass or additional fees.

How do I register for intramurals leagues, tournaments and events?

All participants must create an IMLeagues account and have an active IM Pass to be eligible to register for intramural leagues, tournaments and events for that term. Log into IMLeagues from the OSU Rec Sports website to create an account and obtain an IM Pass. Registration for specific activities will be completed online through IMLeagues.

How much does it cost to play intramurals?

Individuals will purchase an IM Pass for $20 per term to play unlimited intramurals (player eligibility rules will still apply). IM Pass can be purchased online through IMLeagues. Some events may have additional fees to help cover the cost of facility expenses such as the Family Weekend Golf Tournaments. Select events do not require an IM Pass. Visit the sport-specific page on IMLeagues for information about event fees and IM Pass requirements.

How do I create a team?

After you log in to IMLeagues click the “Oregon State University” button at the top of your page to go to the homepage. All of the intramural leagues, tournaments and events for the entire term will be listed here. Find the intramural you'd like to participate in and click on the icon.

Next it will outline all of the important information for that intramural. Select which league you'd like to participate in for that intramural. Click on the league and then on the next page you'll have the opportunity to either "create a team" or "join as a free agent." If you have a group of friends to play with already, create a team. If you don't have a team, join as a free agent, and now teams can view your profile and contact you if they need more players.

When creating the team, you must take the quiz, select a team name, agree to the waiver, etc. After the team is created, start inviting players through your captain toolbar.

If this is a intramural league you must attend the mandatory manager’s meeting. Only one representative from the team needs to attend this meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to give participants an overview of the intramural.

Some tournaments and events may require managers to attend a mandatory manager’s meeting. Information will be outlined on the specific intramural page.

Exactly How Do I Get Started?

OPTION 1: Create a team

  1. Use the Create/Join Team Button at top right of every league page.
  2. Team Managers can invite members to their team by clicking the “Invite Members” link on the team roster page. Any invited members must accept the invitation to join to your team.
  3. If a potential teammate is already a member of IMLeagues, search for their name, and invite them.
  4. If a potential teammate hasn't become a member of IMLeagues, scroll down to the “Invite by Email Address” box, and input their email address.

OPTION 2: Join a registered team by doing one of the following:

  1. Using the Create/Join Team Button at top right of every page.
  2. Accepting a request from the captain to join his team.
  3. Finding the team and captain name on the division/league page and requesting to join.
  4. Going to the captain’s player card page, viewing their team and requesting to join.

OPTION 3: Join as a Free Agent:

  1. You can list yourself as a free agent in as many divisions within a league as you'd like. You will be visible to all members of the site and can request to join teams, or post information about yourself so teams can request to add you to their team.
  2. Visit the Free Agents page for more information around Free Agent Roundups and directions on how to sign up as a free agent.

**Note** IMLeagues offers a live support button in the bottom right corner of all pages. Please use this button if you encounter any difficulties.

What is Preregistration?

Preregistration allows a team manager to create a team in a league before registration opens. This allows a team to complete quizzes, payments, and build their team roster all before registration opens. When registration officially opens, the team manager can move from the preregistration waitlist into a specific day and time slot.

Is there a mobile app?

IMLeagues has a mobile app (called IMLeagues) that can be downloaded for free from the App Store and Google Play Store. It can be used to signup and create/join teams.

If I am the team manager, how do I know whether or not a player has been successfully added to my roster?

Adding players to your roster is easy. Managers send players an invitation through IMLeagues. Players must create an account in IMLeagues AND join the team. Once they accept the manager's request (or send a request of their own) the captain must accept them on to the team. Note that players can be added to a roster, but will be ineligible for participation in an activity until they have purchased an Intramural Pass for that term.

If I don't have a team, can I still sign up for intramurals?

Individuals not on a team but interested in playing intramural sports can register as a “Free Agent” for a specific activity in IMLeagues. Once registered as a free agent, teams can request to add you to their team or you can request to join a team. Free Agents looking for a team and Team Captains looking for players can also attend Free Agent Roundups. More information on Free Agent Roundup dates and locations can be found here.

What intramurals are offered each term?

Leagues, tournaments and events vary each term. Information on the intramurals offered during each term can be found on the Intramurals Offered page.

I want to play in a less competitive atmosphere. Are there any leagues for people just trying to have fun?

Absolutely! B League is Recreational.

Intramurals are divided into four divisions. If there is enough interest, ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘Elite’ leagues are formed. ‘A’ leagues and Elite leagues are competitive while ‘B’ are recreational. The A leagues and Elite leagues play a 4 game regular season with the opportunity for playoffs for teams that qualify. Elite leagues have unrestricted eligibility and are the most competitive leagues. B leagues offer a more relaxed, fun environment while maintaining a little competitive edge with an added 5th regular season game and no playoff opportunities.

I want to play as many intramurals as possible. Is there a limit to what I sign up for?

With an IM Pass, you can sign up for as many different leagues, events and tournaments as you would like each term. However, you can only participate on one co-rec team and one single-gender team per intramural. You cannot participate in an A league and B league of the same division. This prevents participants from playing in the A league and then unfairly dominating the B leagues, which may make it less enjoyable for those who want to play recreationally.

How often will my team play in our intramurals league?

Teams will typically play about once a week. Occasionally, a team can play twice in one week if they reschedule a game because they could not make the originally scheduled game. For teams that qualify for playoffs, a new schedule is created and teams may play multiple times during the week to complete the bracket before finals. In sports where an Elite league is offered, you may play in that league in addition to your one co-rec team and one single-gender team

My team decided on a league time, but now most of us can't make it. Is there a way to change the league time?

Once registration closes, leagues will be locked and teams will not be able to change leagues. It is not guaranteed, but you may stop by the Sport Programs Office in Dixon and request a league time change. If the request is approved, a $5 fee will be assessed to the student account of the team manager.

How can I find out when my team plays next?

Sport Programs will email all team captains when the schedules are posted to IMLeagues. To access your schedule, log on to IMLeagues and go to your team page. Your schedule will be posted there as well as on the sport's main page.

What are the forfeit fees?

Forfeits negatively impact Intramural participants and staff and are therefore billed, reported and assessed to develop programs which minimize the occurrence of forfeits.

Through IMLeagues, team managers will authorize OSU to charge either $20, $10, or $5 to their student account for forfeited intramural contests. Team managers will be charged $20 for a team forfeit within a league or officiated tournament, $10 for a team forfeit within a tournament or event, and $5 for an individual or dual forfeit within a tournament or event.

Team managers and individuals will be charged forfeit fees for “No Shows”. A no show occurs when a team manager or individual registers for an event on IMLeagues, does not attend the event/tournaments and fails to notify the sport coordinator that they are dropping out from the contest.
