Governing Rules
The rules of the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations will apply in all cases except where a special Oregon State University Intramurals rule applies.
Eligibility
All participants must be either students registered at Oregon State University or Faculty/Staff/Affiliate with a Recreational Sports Membership. For more information on eligibility, consult the Intramurals Handbook.
Uniforms and Equipment
- No jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc.) will be allowed in the pool at any time. Participants will need to remove items immediately or leave the meet.
- Participants are not allowed to wear shoes on the pool deck.
- Swim suits must be appropriate as deemed by the meet official.
Pre-Event
- All participants will need to bring their ID card to enter the facility.
- Participants are asked to show up at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the event in order to sign in and register for their chosen events.
Event Structure
Participants will have the opportunity to compete in the following events:
- 50 yard freestyle (2 lengths)
- 50 yard backstroke (2 lengths)
- 50 yard breaststroke (2 lengths)
- 50 yard butterfly (2 lengths)
- 500 yard freestyle (20 lengths)
- 200 yard freestyle relay (4x50) (8 lengths total, 2 lengths per swimmer)
- 200 yard medley relay (4x50) (8 lengths total, 2 lengths per swimmer)
- 100 yard individual medley (4 lengths)
- 350 yard freestyle relay (50, 100, 200) (14 lengths total)
- Big Splash Competition
- Events will have heats and semifinals as needed, with the champion being determined in a final race.
- Timers will be provided at the event.
- Each race will be started by the meet official.
Event Definitions
- False start
- A false start occurs when a participant leaves the wall or starting platform before the meet official signals the start of the race. If a false start occurs, participants will return to the wall for a restart.
- Disqualification
- A disqualification occurs if a participant has two false starts.
Conduct
The Intramurals program promotes positive sportsmanship at all contests and activities. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes actions which are unbecoming to an ethical, fair, and honorable individual. It consists of acts of deceit, disrespect, or vulgarity and includes taunting.
Ejections
Any player ejected from a game will be immediately suspended from participating in all Intramurals activities. The ejected player must then make an appointment with the Coordinator of Intramurals and Sport Coordinator to determine the length of suspension and any other sanctions. The following actions can result in ejections from the Intramurals Swim Meet:
- Improper language
- Unsporting conduct
