If you visit Dixon Recreation Center in the morning, afternoon, or even at night, you are likely to run across Justin Archield. A native of Houston, Texas, Justin never imagined he would find a home in the walls of Recreational Sports. Both a soccer and track and field athlete in high school, his transition to the world of Recreational Sports was effortless. Justin’s passion and enthusiasm are two of the many components that highlight his love for Recreational Sports.

“My biggest motivation to use Recsports facilities is to be healthy and have a healthy body. Dixon Recreation Center is a great place to socialize, as well as a center to get your own personal workouts. Every time I go to Dixon I get energized.”

Currently, Justin is in his final year at Oregon State University where he is studying Psychology. When he is not hitting the textbooks, Justin enjoys spending time in Dixon Recreation Center. Running on the track (both inside and outside) is something Justin religiously incorporates into his day-to-day schedule. One can also often find him playing a full court game at the Dixon Recreation Center gym or shooting hoops at McAlexander Fieldhouse.

“Running is a chance for me to be with myself. It is a chance to be with my own thoughts, clear my head, and it is something I try to do every day.”

Justin’s love for running and basketball led him to participate in the world of Intramural Sports. Justin has participated in three sports through his years at Oregon State University, including softball, basketball and flag football.  He and his team, “Get Money,” are the current reigning champions.

“Participating in IM Flag-Football was really fun. I wasn’t expecting to play, but once my friend signed me up, my competitive nature kicked in and we played liked a team to win the IM championship. If I had the chance I would do it all over again!”

Justin is a role model for our Beaver Nation community. During his sophomore year at Oregon State University, Justin served as a student employee in the Black Cultural Center (BCC).

“BCC is all about bridging the gap between African-American students the OSU community. We are about bringing everyone together, to be one big healthy community. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had during my time at OSU.”

By putting on events and taking a lead role in the African American culture, Justin proves to be a highly influential member of our campus.

Along with being a community leader at the BCC, Justin creates his legacy by working in the Students Events and Activity Center (SEAC). The SEAC team is responsible for putting on student-led events on campus and support student groups and clubs. During Justin’s time with the SEAC, he helped launch the #BeBeaverBold campaign in Beaver Nation.

“At OSU, BeBeaverBold encourages students to expand and branch out on their own. It means to expand your personal boundaries one small step at a time, because that could mean something bigger to someone else.”

Justin not only leaves his legacy within the walls of Recreational Sports, the Black Cultural Center, and the SEAC team, but his legacy continues with every step he takes on campus, through the smiles and laughs he shares with the community around him, always reminding our campus to BeBeaverBold!.
