Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard Training (PAC 249)

  • The course covers skills for responding to aquatic emergencies, including deep and shallow water rescue, rapid extrication and CPR for all ages, as well as the use of AEDs and other life-saving equipment.
  • Completion awards certifications in Lifeguarding (including deep water), CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid through the American Red Cross.
  • 10-week course, offered winter and spring terms.

  • This course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to handle aquatic emergencies. It covers water rescues, first aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
  • Three-day course is offered during spring break and spring term.

  • The American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification course is designed to update and renew lifeguarding skills, including rescue techniques, CPR/AED and first aid.
  • Successful completion maintains certification and ensures readiness for emergency situations.
  • One day course offered fall and spring term.

Aquatic Instructor Certifications

Lifeguard Instructor Certification

  • The American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification course trains individuals to teach lifeguarding courses, focusing on water safety, rescue techniques, and emergency response skills.
  • Participants learn how to effectively teach and assess lifeguard candidates, with an emphasis on leadership, communication, and instructional methods.
  • Registration begins March 10. 

Water Safety Instructor Certification

  • The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification trains individuals to teach swimming and water safety courses. It covers instructional techniques, water safety principles and effective teaching strategies for a range of ages and skill levels.
