Amidst the fast-paced lifestyle at Oregon State University, students are able to find relaxation and reprieve through involvement in co-curricular activities.  Involvement in clubs and organizations within the university enables students to strive towards success in an active and artistic manner.  One such student who most certainly embodies the persona of an involved and successful individual is Vanessa Fuller, an OSU junior studying Human Development and Family Sciences, who is also a member of the OSU Gymnastics Club. Vanessa believes that both the OSU community and Gymnastics Club are testaments to why OSU is such a great place to live and learn.

“I love the sense of community that I feel whenever I am on campus. All of the students and staff are always willing to have a conversation and get to know you. It is a welcoming environment and I love that I feel at home here,” Vanessa states.

As a member of the diverse OSU community, Vanessa expresses that she is greatly appreciative of the opportunities available to students through Recreational Sports. For her, this opportunity presented itself in the form of the Gymnastics Club.

“It means the world to me to have the opportunity to continue gymnastics through Recreational Sports. I was a competitive gymnast for 15 years and the sport is really hard to quit. I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to do what I love in college. I also love that the club is a place where I’ve met so many amazing friends who also share a passion for the sport.”

As vice-president of the club, Vanessa is very driven. She has her hands full as she helps with coaching other gymnasts, helps with club administrative tasks and supports the fundraising efforts for the club. Vanessa’s drive and determination have also played a great role in helping her achieve her dreams.  Last year at Nationals, she won first place, claiming the National Championship All-Around Individual Title in Tennessee with a humble smile on her face.

“To be honest, I did not expect to win or even place at Nationals. I just went out there and did what I love to do. At the awards ceremony I was surprised and happy when my name was called. I am so proud to represent OSU RecSports and my team,” Vanessa exclaimed.

Vanessa hopes that the OSU Gymnastics Club will be able to continue to participate at the National Level in the future, as it was an experience she will cherish forever.

Personally, she will carry her positive spirit and bright smile into the field of elementary school education, ready to embark upon new journeys for the future.

“I do not know where my life will take me and that is what I love about life; it is unpredictable. I am excited to see what my future holds!”
