5, 6, 7, 8!  This series of numbers has been one of the central themes in Jenna Gilmour’s life from an early age.  As a devotee of the dance life, Jenna has embraced the high-paced lifestyle that her commitments entail.  She loves that her lifestyle allows her to meet a multitude of diverse individuals, as this truly enhances her understanding of people as a junior studying psychology at OSU.

The moment Jenna stepped foot on Oregon State’s campus she immediately experienced the wholehearted spirit of Beaver Nation.  Since she knew that she wanted to be involved in every aspect of campus life, Jenna sought various opportunities to radiate her energy as a dancer.  During fall term 2011, Jenna auditioned and was selected for the OSU Elite Dance Team and she eventually earned the position of team captain the following year.  In addition, she proactively joined the fitness team at Recreational Sports, filling her evenings with the fun and fast-paced beats as a Zumba instructor.  Through her experiences as a part of the Recreational Sports staff, Jenna has gained valuable experiences that she will never forget.

“My fellow staff members at Recreational Sports are some of the friendliest and most welcoming individuals I’ve ever met.  The connections I’ve built are ones that I’ll cherish forever,” explained Jenna.

The leadership, respect, and experience gained from being a part of the OSU Elite Dance Team and Recreational Sports motivated Jenna to pursue her dream of being a part of a collegiate cheer and dance team.  Last spring, Jenna became a part of the Oregon State University Cheer & Dance Team, finally fulfilling one of her longtime dreams.  When she became a part of the team, Jenna began in an alternate position.  Originally, she was assigned the role of filling in for other dancers.  However, she continued to perfect her technique and performance dynamics.  Early on during football season in 2014, Jenna received a call to perform during the San Diego State football game, only 45 minutes prior to kickoff.

“I was so amazed, nervous and excited at the same time! It was definitely that “wow” moment when I realized that I’m going to be in front of thousands of people,” stated Jenna with a bright smile on her face.

Jenna has since carried on her passion from cheering and dancing on the football field to rallying the team and spectators in both men’s and women’s basketball games.  She credits the cheers and love from the crowd for feeding her performance, as this results in amazing bursts of adrenaline which power her and her teammates throughout the night.

Following her time at Oregon State University, Jenna hopes to either pursue a dental hygiene program or look towards gaining the opportunity to showcase her talents on a professional sports dance team.
