Beginning Sunday, March 20 at 10pm the OSU Campus Steam System is undergoing maintenance. This is a university-wide issue and many buildings on campus will be affected. Dixon Recreation Center will be affected in the following ways:
This maintenance could last well into the week. Stay tuned for updates.
Thanks to the hard work of our Energy Center Employees, Facilities Team, Local Contractors and our Campus Partners we have restored the steam to campus today Friday, March 25, 2016. I want to thank heartily all of the previously mentioned people for their extraordinary efforts. I also would like to thank our Campus Administration for their continual and unwavering support. I would also like to thank all of our campus staff, faculty and students for their patience during this trying time.
We are continuing to progress in a positive way on the Corvallis campus steam repair. Crews flushed the steam line, installed pressure relief vents and finished sealing the outer casing today. We intend to light the boiler at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning. Steam will come on very slowly. We anticipate all buildings to have full steam pressure by midafternoon.
Thank you for your continued patience,
We have eliminated the possibility of leaks in the majority of pipeand have narrowed it down to the last 100 feet of line. The protective outer shell of the steam pipe is compromised in so many places that it is nearly impossible to tell what is steam leaking from the main pipe and what is intruding groundwater that is being vaporized by the primary steam pipe. Today we will pressurize the steam line with water only, to make it safer for our employees to work around as we finish the repairs. We fully intend and are working diligently to be operational by the time the majority of our students return.
Closures are often subject to changes and delays, so please visit the OSU Campus Closures, Shutdowns and Detours page for updates on this and other campus closures.
