The Adventure Leadership Institute ™ is Oregon State University’s authority in adventure leadership education, providing awe-inspiring, transformative experiences to more than 9,500 Oregon State University students each year. The ALI ™ is excited to introduce The Adventure Academy, an innovative program to launch new students on a path of academic excellence.
The Adventure Academy is a 7-day program that occurs on July 22-28, 2018. During the academy, students will complete coursework for PAC 301 – Challenge Course Experience (1-credit), PAC 303 - Camp Craft (1 credit), and PAC 325 - Wilderness First Aid (1 credit). Courses are cross-linked so that registration is required for all three courses.
The Adventure Academy uses outdoor learning environments as a way to foster self-awareness and interpersonal skills. Our classroom is the outdoors! The Adventure Academy conducts its study while camping, hiking and adventuring in Oregon’s forests and waterways.
Students in the Adventure Academy will arrive at OSU in fall term having made connections with other students and faculty. While completing 3-course credits, students will have made significant progress toward their Level I certificate in Adventure Leadership.
The Academy will consist of 16 first year OSU students:
1. Eligibility is limited to new OSU Students (first-year students).
2. Preference is given to First-Generation students.
3. Preference is given to student residents of the Adventure Living Learning Community.
4. Preference is given to students who select the Adventure Living-Learning Community in the top 3 of their campus residence choices.
Students select their housing preferences in early June.
Please provide a 3-5 minute video describing a) ways in which you are an unlikely adventurer, and b) how adventure leadership supports your shared goals of development in this community at OSU.
